Tip: Dry cleaning items purchased from a thrift store

If you’ve been shying away from buying thrift store clothing with a care tag indicating it needs dry cleaning, check again. You may not need to pay to dry clean it after all.

In fact, if the tag reads “Dry Clean,” you can probably wash the garment carefully by hand without any damage. Not always, but most of the time. “Dry Clean” is the suggested means of cleaning the article of clothing. However, if the tag indicates the fabric is “Dry Clean Only,” tossing it in the washing machine is almost guaranteed to damage it – I wouldn’t try it.

So the next time you spot a gorgeous outfit with a “Dry Clean” tag inside, depending on the price, you may want to try washing it by hand or on your washing machine’s lowest setting. You’ll likely save yourself a big dry cleaning bill.
